ECMC families will be trick-or-treating at Quail Lodge in Antioch. This is an annual event for ECMC and kids and parents alike have a great time! We will collect candy to be distributed to the residents of Quail Lodge so that the residents have a candy supply when we come. The kids will be in costume and will have a great time visiting the residents and trick or treating!

THE WALK TO CURE DIABETES
According to the Center for Disease Control, as many as 3 million Americans have type 1 (insulindependent) diabetes. It is a disease most often diagnosed in childhood that strikes suddenly, lasts a lifetime, and carries the constant threat of deadly complications, including heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, and amputation. This is a scary disease as the cause is unknown and kids will never “outgrow” it. Scientists know there is a very small genetic link, but there is also an environmental factor that has yet to be identified. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s (JDRF) mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Typically, more than 80 cents of every dollar donated to JDRF goes directly to research and education about research. Thanks to dramatic progress, a cure is now within our reach! The Walk to Cure Diabetes is a family-friendly JDRF fundraiser event with plenty of entertainment, food and fun. There are 500,000 people nationwide participating at their 200 walk sites. It is a 2 mile easy walk. If you would like to help us in the cause, please contact communityoutreach@eastcountymothersclub.org.

May 2007

This month we supported our local women's shelter, Shepherd's Gate, an organization that helps battered and homeless women and children. We assembled and delivered 100 bags of travel size toiletries, make-up and lotions in our Mother's Day Bags. Thank you to everyone for their generous donations and time to assemble the bags! Shepherd's Gate was very surprised and appreciative of our donations. So start saving up on the travel toiletries during your summer travels so we can have another successful event next year as well!
